Going through an old trunk, I found a hand-typed poem, dated June 27, 1927 Written by H.D. Knight Box 132, Melborne FLA. I'm trying to find any information, I've searched H D KNIGHT, but come up empty-handed; I've typed it below exactly as it is, no puntuations, etc.
Here is the poem:
THERE WAS A MAN BY GODS GREAT HAND THAT FLEW OVER THE OCEAN GREAT
HE FLEW TO FAME AND MADE A NAME THAT WILL FOREVER ACCLAIM COL. LINDBERGH.
LINDY WAS A MAN OF NERVE SO STRONG WHO NEVER DID ANY WRONG.
HE WENT OUT OVER THE WATERS DEEP TO SEEK THE HONORS FOR AMERICA TO KEEP.
HE WON THE HIGHEST HONORS OF ANY MAN DRESSED IN HIS SUIT OF TAN.
HE ROSE FROM ROOSEVELTS FIELD AT DAWN AND TOLD AMERICA HE WAS GONE.
WHEN HE WAS SEATED IN HIS PLANE TO GO.
THE [typo] KNEELED TO PRAY THAT HE WOULD BE SAFE ALL THE WAY AND RETURN TO THEM SOME DAY.
HE FLEW ALL ALONE OVER LAND AND SEA UNKNOWN.
HE FLEW NIGHT AND DAY WANDERING ON HIS WAY IN THE DIRECTION HE THOUGHT WAS RIGHT
AND IT WAS SO OUR HERO WON THE FIGHT.
CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS THE FIRST MAN TO CROSS THE WATERS OF THE DEEP BLUE SEA.
THIS WAS ONLY A SMALL BOAT THE PEOPLE THOUGHT WOULD HARDLY FLOAT.
BUT HE AS LINDY MADE IT ACROSS AND MADE HIM A HERO THAT WAS NOT LOST.
LINDBERGHS INTENTIONS WERE GOOD AND STRONG TO MAKE HIS TRIP
THUOGH [typo]IT WAS LONG TO MAKE IT ACROSS THE SEA.
OH. WHAT A FAMOUS AMERICAN HE MUST BE.
HE DIDNT HAVE ANY TO HELP OR GUIDE HIS PLANE. THATS ONE WAY HE WON SO GREAT A NAME.
HE WAS IN THE FOG DURING THE NIGHT WHEN COMPANY WOULD HAVE MADE THINGS BRIGHT.
LINDY IN ALL HIS HONORS WON NEVER FORGOT HIS COUNTRYS SONS WHO LAY IN FLANDERS FIELD.
TO THEM HIS HEART DID YIELD.
HE FLEW HIGH IN THE AIR AND THREW FLOWERS EVERYWHERE.
HE PAID TRIBUTE TO THE ONES THAT HAD FALLEN FROM THE SHOTS OF GUNS.
LINDYS FLIGHT TO VICTORY WILL GO DOWN IN HISTORY LIKE COLUMBUS IN HIS DAY
THAT CAME ACROSS IN A DIFFERENT WAY.
WHEN HE RETURNED TO THE LAND OF THE FREE
TO THE UNKNOWN SOLDIERS TOMB HE WENT TO SEE
HE PLACED A WREATH ON HIS GRAVE.
THAT WAS THE HONORS LINDBERGH GAVE.
