The follow were pictures were taken at El Centro MCAS sometime in early 1943. Captain Lawrence M. Faulkner, USMCR, and Charles Lindbergh were performing test flights with the F4U Corsair. Faulkner was later a Flight Officer for VMF-216 and was listed as MIA following a bomber escort mission over Rabaul on 19 Dec 1943. Faulkner was from Pleasant Hill, MO, studied aeronautical engineering at University of Missouri, and had just returned from a tour of duty at Guadalcanal with VMF-212 (Cactus Air Force) under Lt. Col. Harold William "Indian Joe" Bauer. If anyone has information about Charles Lindbergh at El Centro during that period, please email jkemper@cox.net.
